The green circle is keeping the job alive. It is doing absolutely nothing to keep the bugs out. That is the first thing to notice in this Deep Rock Galactic salvage sequence.
Our example follows an Engineer with Bosco, the flying robot, in a solo salvage run. The cave offers room to explore; the objective eventually asks the player to care about a very small patch of it.
For your group: take a closer look if your friends like being useful with tools as well as weapons. Making a route, fixing equipment and holding a position are all part of the attraction here. This recording shows those jobs, while a four-person play session would be a separate test.
A tool changes where you can stand
Earlier, the Engineer fires yellow material into a cave wall. A platform appears. Soon the player is looking down from a position that was not previously accessible in the same way.
That is a satisfying visual idea because the result remains in the scene. The player has changed the route, and the route can now be read back from the platforms. Equipment is doing something visible to the environment.

This is the moment we would send alongside the gunfire. The official game listing describes one-to-four-player co-op and destructible caves. Here, a small use of equipment makes that idea tangible: the next place to stand can be something the player makes.
A huge cave, a very small place to be
The salvage job moves to equipment beside the drop pod. A repair tool comes out. A sentry is placed nearby. Then the uplink begins, and the boundary defines where the player needs to remain.
Creatures keep entering that space. The shotgun empties while the progress bar fills. There is an uncomfortable overlap between the job being nearly done and the immediate position becoming harder to manage.
You can see the way home long before you are allowed to take it.
Finishing the uplink does not finish the departure. Fuel cells need attention. Another boundary appears. Later, the pod itself needs time to power up. Each completed step makes the next delay feel more specific.
The staircase is still there when the ramp opens
Around the pod, the Engineer adds more platforms. An odd yellow staircase takes shape over the uneven ground. It is both a useful route and a visible reminder of the work that went into reaching this point.
When the ramp finally extends, walking through the door feels larger than the movement itself. The scene has spent time making the exit visible but unavailable. Being able to use it is the payoff.
You can see the work after the fight
The platforms give this sequence something a kill count cannot: a small record of the player’s decisions left in the cave. The yellow steps make sense because of the awkward ground and the pod they lead towards. Look back and you can see how this particular route was made.
That is an important difference from Toxic Commando’s truck defence, where the squad must cope with the road around its objective. The Engineer can add useful surfaces around the exit. Both sequences ask for a holdout; one also lets the player leave a practical answer in the terrain.
For a friend who enjoys making something useful for the team, that is a stronger reason to investigate than “it has four classes.” The solo recording demonstrates the tool’s contribution. It cannot establish how four people will divide those jobs, or whether your group will enjoy the same class mix.
Would your friends enjoy the job between the fights?
That is the question we would ask before sharing a swarm clip. The salvage sequence spends time on repairs, positioning and waiting for equipment. The appeal is seeing those smaller jobs add up to a departure you have worked for.
A group drawn to exploration and useful tools has a clear reason to investigate. Friends who want constant forward motion and gunfire should watch the setup too. The work is part of this mission’s rhythm.
Check store versions before buying together. The official cross-play information separates Steam from Xbox/Microsoft Store PC. The same title on everyone’s shopping list does not settle compatibility. Our version and setup guide maps the supported groups and helps you choose the right copy before the evening starts.
For a sharper contrast in atmosphere, compare Deep Rock Galactic with GTFO. Both examples make a patch of ground important. One gives us a yellow staircase in an alien cave; the other asks us to concentrate on what the darkness around a scan might contain.
Put it on your group’s radar if…
A group drawn to exploration, useful tools and a hectic escape at the end of a shared job.
Keep in mind: The analysed recording is a solo Engineer mission from August 2022, with Bosco. It is not evidence of four human players coordinating. Can your group play together?
Up to 4 people in the mode covered here. Standard online co-op; unmodified game.

All PC players must agree on a compatible storefront. The PlayStation crossplay statement is an older launch statement; no newer official expansion was found. Windows Microsoft Store/Xbox version, not Steam.
Versions absent from this review need a separate check. They are not automatically unavailable. These notes do not cover mods, cloud-streaming services or every game mode.
Same cave. The right versions.
Before everyone installs, agree which version will bring the group into the same lobby.
Ask for the store, too
“PC” leaves an important detail out. Write Steam or Microsoft Store alongside the console versions in your group.
Match the whole group
Use the guide’s three version groups to spot a mismatch before buying. A different host does not bridge them.
Prepare the first session
Confirm game access, console online requirements and a shared starting plan before the evening begins.
Setup references checked . The guide links the official requirements.
Both on PC does not always mean together.
Agree on the store
Xbox and the Microsoft Store PC version can play together. Steam is separate from that group, so a Steam key is the wrong choice if your friends use Xbox or Microsoft Store.
The shared game
The base game supports one to four players. Its Steam listing describes the extra cosmetic packs separately from the game, so agree on a compatible version before considering outfits.
Read the example correctly
Our scene follows an Engineer with Bosco in a solo mission. The game supports human co-op, but that recording does not show four friends coordinating.
