The enormous creature is above you. The bright green wave is coming along the floor. In the Space Marine 2 recording we analysed, the camera keeps moving between the impressive target and the immediate reason to get out of the way.

It is an easy scene to send to two friends with a message: “This?” Answering takes a little more than counting the three places in the squad. Do you want a campaign to follow together, a practical job to share, or an evening of expensive mistakes in a haunted building?

These three games give a regular trio different reasons to meet. The observations come from our credited scene studies; the group sizes and platform checks come from the official sources linked below. We have not run a three-person playtest of each game, so we do not rank their difficulty or claim a particular balance for a trio.

Space Marine 2: make the trio the squad

The Neurothrope encounter is useful because the spectacle remains readable as a small sequence of problems. Titus looks towards the boss. Effects move through the arena. The weapon drops while he repositions. The fight gives the camera more to do than admire the largest enemy.

For three friends who want to follow a story together, that is the attraction to investigate: a visible protagonist, changing battlefields and a reason to see what the next encounter looks like. Focus describes the campaign as playable solo or with three players. Our field note follows that campaign, rather than judging the separate Operations mode.

A green wave moves through the Neurothrope arena beside Titus in Space Marine 2.
A spectacular target still leaves room for a very local problem. Frame: No Commentary Casas, 11:38; recording and CC BY 3.0 details in the campaign field note.

The useful question: are these the same three people you expect to play with next week? A three-player campaign is a neat fit for a regular trio. It becomes a hard limit when a fourth friend wants to join that same session. Decide whether the group is fixed before you buy a game around it.

For mixed devices, Focus’s FAQ confirms cross-play between Steam, Epic, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with an option to turn it off. Agree on the supported versions and keep cross-play enabled for the mixed group. This is an online campaign recommendation; it does not promise three people on one screen.

Deep Rock Galactic: enjoy making a route

In the salvage run we followed, the Engineer’s yellow platforms remain beside the drop pod while the fight continues. They are a small record of work already done. When it is time to leave, the route matters again.

That changes what to show your friends. Send the building and repairs as well as the bugs. Someone who likes leaving a useful object in a shared space may see an attraction that a montage of shooting would miss.

The official description supports one to four players, so three people fit within the stated capacity. The analysed run is solo with Bosco. It demonstrates the tools and the departure, not how three human players divide the jobs or how much easier a particular hazard will be.

The useful question: will all three of you enjoy the work between the fights? If repairs, exploration and improvising a route sound like a good evening, this is the candidate to keep. Its extra place also leaves room for a fourth friend in a future session.

Do the store check early. Ghost Ship’s cross-play information separates Steam from the Xbox/Microsoft Store PC group. Three computers do not automatically mean three compatible copies. Our game page records the reviewed platform combinations and their sources.

R.E.P.O.: decide how you feel about a shared mistake

The painting fills the view. The next doorway suddenly looks less generous. Later, a small creature reaches the loaded cart and the displayed value drops by $2,068 in the encounter we analysed.

That delivery sequence gives your trio a different question to answer. Would an awkward object and an obvious loss become something you laugh about, or would everyone want to know whose fault it was? The fragile haul makes coordination visible. It also makes a mistake difficult to ignore.

Semiwork’s Steam listing describes physics-based cargo, proximity voice chat and online play for up to six people. Three fit that capacity; our archived recording does not establish how the current game scales its demands to a trio. R.E.P.O. is still listed in Early Access at this check.

The useful question: do you want a task that can go wrong in a memorable way? Keep this choice when all three people like that prospect. A friend who dislikes horror or hates losing accumulated value should see the complete cargo encounter before agreeing to a funny-looking clip.

The reviewed purchase and compatibility information here covers PC on Steam. Six places leave room for more friends; they do not establish support for somebody’s console.

Send two choices, then make the practical check

If story progression is the reason you meet, start with Space Marine 2. If you want to contribute tools and useful work, start with Deep Rock Galactic. If the attraction is a frightening delivery with room for accidents, start with R.E.P.O. None needs you to recruit a fourth person simply to meet its stated human-player capacity.

Choose the two ideas that survive that conversation. Our shareable three-game list lets you remove a candidate and keep the game pages together. Add your exact versions in the planner before treating any choice as ready to buy.

If a fourth person is likely to become a regular, use the four-player guide now. If everyone prefers quiet clues to guns or cargo, Phasmophobia is another direction within four-player capacity. The number gets everyone into the same evening. What you want to do there is the more personal part of the choice.
